# Import private high-res imagery into Google Earth

Asked by jinkaizhang on 2017-07-10

Hello,

I am trying to use Collect Earth for Land Cover survey, but the imagery from Google Earth is too old (5 years old for some places!). I do have the latest SPOT data(1.5-m pixel) from last year, about 300 tiles, to cover the whole province. Is there a better way for me to import all these tiles?

Thanks,

Jinkai

Dear Jinkai.

If you have the time the best would be to set up a cartographic server (like MapServer. GeoServer or Google Earth Enterprise), ingest the imagery into this server (pyramid it) and then use the imagery through the WMS capabilities of Google Earth (or the Google Earth Enterprise Client if using the GE Enterprise server)

Obviously this will take some time...

You can test the map servers using OSGeo Live virtual machine : [https://live.osgeo.org/][1]

Hi,

In relation to this question, is it feasible to bypass the internet and get the private images loaded from the local computer to the GE interface without going through the internet? This would be highly interesting when working in low-internet environment.

Thanks,

Florence

You could achieve this with the [Google Earth Enterprise][1] server for instance.

We do not have experience on using this method so I cannot help any more.
