# Default value and relevancy

Asked by Andras on 2018-10-28

Dear OF Team,

will the default value be applied to an attribute that has a relevancy expression evaluated to FALSE?
What I'm driving at is if I need to include the relevancy check to the default values's "Apply when" expression?

e.g.: subtype has relevancy check: `type < 6` and default value apply when: `type != 2`, is that correct, or do I have to include the relevancy check as well `type != 2 and type < 6`?

Thanks for your help!

Andras

Hi Andreas,
The default value is applied only when an attribute becomes relevant and its `Expression` is evaluated only at that moment, so the answer is: no, you don't need to specify that condition in the `Apply when` field.
Thanks,
