Dear OF-team,

We are currently testing a survey with a new smartphone (Galaxy S20). Turns out that all images are turned by 90 degrees (both on the phone and in the output file). When using the very same survey on a different phone, this error does not occur. Additionally, the S20 does not turn any pictures by default, i.e. when photos are taken and open in the phone's gallery. We are wondering so, whether this is an issue with OF running on Samsung phones. Do you have any suggestions how to correct this?

Another thing we notices is that the images are up to 25MB in size, even though I specified a maximum size of 10MB in the collect survey. How can I reduce the file size effectively?

Thanks in advance,

Jan

Dear Jan,
Please update Collect Mobile to the latest version 1.7.9 (build 202).
If there is a max size specified for the file attribute, the captured image will be scaled to fit the maximum size.
There is also a button below the image that allows to rotate the image.
Please let us know if this is enough for you.
Many thanks,

Dear Jan,
We cannot add that property to the file attribute editor in the Survey Designer, because it's something that affects only few devices and after this change on Collect Mobile it won't be necessary.
If you are using Windows 10 or 11 you can easily rotate the images in bulk, by just selecting the files from the File Explorer and selecting Rotate left/right.
Many thanks,

Dear Jan,
We will add soon the possibility to rotate the images captured with the device directly from the data entry form, and also the resize of the image to respect the limit specified in the survey designer.
We will let you know as soon as the feature is ready (a couple of weeks probably).
Many thanks,

Dear OF-team,

thanks for implementing this very convenient feature, it works correctly!

What I was initially referring to, though, was a possibility to rotate all images automatically that would be implemented in the collect survey itself. So more like a "rotate image" box to be ticked when the survey is designed. This is needed in our case because all images are strangely rotated by 90 degrees and thus to avoid correcting thousands of pictures after a mission. Would that be possible?

Best, Jan
